Affiliation Rules for Individuals

An annual Affiliation fee is payable by all persons* exercising an NZPIA-issued document. These include:

  • Commercial tandem masters and camera flyers
  • Jumpmasters, Instructors, Instructor Examiners, Assessors
  • Recreational/sport parachutists
  • Student parachutists
  • Parachute Technicians
  • Parachute Drop Pilots

*Visiting sport skydivers on Temporary Parachutist Certificates are exempt.

Affiliation fees are payable prior to undertaking your first jump under the NZPIA, and by the 1st of October each year thereafter.

Why charge an annual fee?

Providing our services to the skydiving community costs money. Everyone who benefits from the NZPIA must contribute to the ongoing costs of providing its services, including Drop zone operators and individual participants. This is common practice around the world.

What do you get for your fee?

Affiliation entitles you to exercise the privileges of your NZPIA-issued document, provided you continue to meet all the other conditions of that document, for the period covered by the fee.

NOTE: The Affiliation fee alone does NOT entitle you to jump under the NZPIA. You must also have a valid and in-date NZPIA qualification.

Affiliated skydivers are also entitled to basic membership in the NZPF at no extra charge, subject to certain conditions:

  • NZPF membership is not automatic. NZPF membership is optional so you must opt in or out when you pay your annual NZPIA affiliation fee.
  • You must be in the recreational, commercial or professional skydiver affiliation category to join NZPF through NZPIA. Non-skydiving participants may join directly through NZPF.
  • If you join NZPF through NZPIA, your NZPF membership will be valid for the period covered by your NZPIA affiliation fee. Should your NZPIA affiliation lapse, your NZPF membership will also lapse.
  • Joining NZPF through NZPIA does not entitle you to any extra benefits of NZPF such as FAI Sporting Licence. Contact NZPF directly for more information about the products and services they offer.
How do we spend your fees?

Fees are reinvested in services for the NZPIA community such as continual improvement of training and progression standards; supporting education and sport development projects in partnership with NZPF; providing access to resources online; liaising between the community and regulators; and contributing to the administrative costs of providing our Part 149 services.

Fee prices will be reviewed every three years to ensure they are still appropriate.

What happens if you don’t pay the fee?

The fee is a condition of your certificate/rating, just like staying current or having an in-date reserve. NZPIA certificates and ratings don’t expire, however to use them under the NZPIA you must continue to meet the validity conditions of the document, which include current affiliation.

Failure to pay the fee means you won’t be permitted to exercise the privileges of your certificate, rating or authorisation under the NZPIA until the fee is paid.

How to pay the fee

Fees can be paid anytime by logging in to your account and selecting the “Annual Subs” link from the menu on the left-hand side of the Home Page.  You must be logged in to do this; if you don’t have an account you can register for one by selecting the “REGISTER” tab at the top of this page.
